Rob grew up in Michigan and spent 18 years teaching documentary filmmaking in Fairbanks, Alaska. While there he created the podcast "Dark Winter Nights: True Stories from Alaska," which the New York Times called the "best winter podcast for storytelling lovers." He then started "Lake Effect: True Stories from Michigan" based on the same model as Dark Winter Nights. He currently lives in Michigan and continues to host both shows.
